Nice to Meet You!
Hi, I'm Lindsay McDonald (BA Psych), R.H.N., CHCP, and I am the creator of Holistic Mindful Living. I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Certified Holistic Cancer Practitioner. I offer online nutrition and lifestyle coaching to help you reach your weight-loss and wellness goals. By teaching my clients how to 'un-diet' I'm able to empower them to take back their health while still living a balanced life. I follow a holistic approach that means emphasis is placed not just on the foods you eat but also support for ones mental and emotional health.
I believe that food should be delicious and fun but also healthy. My programs will allow you to reach your goals by making better choices while still enjoying the foods you love!
My Story
I am passionate about inspiring others to be healthy!
While at University, studying Psychology, I experienced the negative effects of poor dietary habits and unhealthy lifestyle choices. I was overweight, tired all the time and unhappy, so I decided to seek out ways to improve my health naturally. I began reading everything I could about health, nutrition and fitness. I soon realized that food is meant to nourish and fuel our body and if we truly want to be healthy, we need to "EAT TO LIVE, NOT LIVE TO EAT". Although it took time, through improved nutrition and exercise, I lost 50 lbs. but I gained a new love for learning about holistic health and wellness.
I was finally feeling better both physically and mentally but in 2008 we found out that my father had cancer. This was devastating and it really wasn't until then that I began to realize just how important it is to take care of our body because it is the only one, we have. Watching my father go through surgery, chemotherapy and radiation was heartbreaking. Sadly, he passed away in 2009; 1 year after his treatments. After seeing my father go through what he did, it inspired me to learn everything I could in order to stay well for a long time. I truly believe that to give ourselves the best chance possible we need to live our most healthy life.
I began to think that my university degree in Psychology would combine well with my newfound passion for empowering people to care for their body by choosing a Healthy Lifestyle, Fitness and optimal Nutrition. Mental health and Nutrition go hand because what we eat affects how we feel and how we feel affects what we eat! The food we put in our mouth has a direct impact on our health.
We can either choose foods and daily habits that support our body or ones that cause harm to our body.
I enrolled at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition (CSNN) and graduated in 2012 with the designation of Registered Holistic Nutritionist. At CSNN I learned how to use food as a means to restore health and balance to the body. I also learned what a “healthy” diet truly consists of.
I believe that the mind, body and spirit are truly interconnected, and that optimal health is experienced when all 3 components are balanced and supported. The S.A.D (Standard American Diet) is full of refined sugars, overly processed foods, and large amounts of processed meat and dairy and is lacking in many nutrients.
I believe by making small changes and better choices people can live a healthier life for a long time.
